Green Solution House located on the Island Bornholm receives the award "Building of the Year" in the category "Commercial buildings" awarded by the Danish magazine Byggeri (Construction). The award is the entire construction industry's honorary prize and Denmark's only national construction award, which also celebrates the good building that has a social impact.
"The award is a recognition of sustainability certainly also being good business," says Kasper Guldager Jensen, Partner with 3XN architects and Director with the company's innovation group GXN. "The fact that a green building receives the award in the commercial category is quite exceptional, especially as the vision from the beginning has been to create a building that is worth travelling to, because of its green solutions."
Commercial Award for Sustainable building
The vision of Green Solution House has been to lead by example and demonstrate circular sustainability through green building materials and sustainable solutions developed and tested within the project. Moreover, the building is a driving force of the conversion of Bornholm from being only a holiday destination towards a space with sustainable business tourism on the agenda.
The jury, composed of representatives from the construction industry's largest and most important players, said in praise of the Green Solution House:
Green Solution House is conceived and designed as a continuous laboratory where sustainable building materials and solutions are tested. It is a building that pushes boundaries. It is a beacon for the Luminous Green Island, as Bornholm is working to position itself.
A showroom for green solutions
Green Solution House, which opened in April this year, is amongst the most ambitious and visionary projects of the office. GXN intends the project to be a showcase and display for new solutions within the environmental field. Already, the house contains a wealth of environmentally friendly materials, including carpets that clean the air of dust particles and acoustic surfaces that clean the air of formaldehyde. There is also an innovative waste treatment system that transforms garbage and food waste to heat, electricity and fertilizer. Likewise, the hotel has two so-called intelligent hotel rooms, Smart Rooms, where hotel guest has the opportunity to form their own indoor climate via a tablet.
